Lighthouse Pregnancy Center Banquet Features Author David Kinnaman
David Kinnamanâauthor of the best-selling book, unChristian: What a New Generation Really Thinks About Christianity . . . and Why it Mattersâwill be the keynote speaker at the Lighthouse Pregnancy Resource Center fundraising banquet, March 8, at The Venetian Restaurant in Garfield, New Jersey.
Lighthouse offers life-affirming support to women, men, and teens in pregnancy-related crisis. The centerâs free and confidential services include pregnancy testing and ultrasound confirmation, options counseling, material support, parenting education, Scripture-based post-abortion healing groups, and sexual integrity presentations.
This yearâs event celebrates the addition of on-site ultrasound services at the Hawthorne center and raises funds for expenses, as well as possible expansion into Bergen County. According to Executive Director Debbie Provencher, the center increased the number of new clients it served in 2009 by 50 percent and provided more than 1,000 one-on-one appointments. These ranged from first visits for teens suspecting pregnancy, to parenting lessons for expectant moms, to relationship support for those moving toward marriage, to recovery help for those troubled by a past abortion.
In keeping with the banquet theme, Shine, Kinnaman will speak about Living the Light: Becoming More Christ-like as our World Becomes Less Christian. The president of the Barna Group, a leading research organization focused on the intersection of faith and culture, Kinnaman has analyzed nearly 500 projects for such organizations as Prison Fellowship, World Vision, and The Salvation Army. He co-authored unChristian with Gabe Lyons out of a desire to help Christians understand how to be the church to a culture that is Gospel-ignorant, if not Gospel-resistant. The book contains groundbreaking research into the perceptions of 16-29 year olds regarding American Christians and their faith.
âSo much of Kinnamanâs passion for being a positive influence for the Kingdom of God in times that are changing and challenging, mirrors our goals for Lighthouse,â explained Provencher. âThe practical support we offer at Lighthouse is motivated by a heart to help people experience the Gospel through grace-based, unconditional love.â
