In January, Abundant Life Academy celebrated “Kindness in Action Month” by participating in Star 99.1 FM’s Sock Drop. The outreach by the Christian radio station is mobilizing people and organizations in the Metro New York region to collect socks for the homeless through Feb. 22.

At Abundant Life Academy (ALA), the theme for Kindness in Action month was “Bringing Glory to God.” The school’s fourth grade class initiated the sock drop after hearing about it on Star 99.1 The fourth-grade class subsequently invited the third and fifth grade classes to join in and the “outcome was amazing,” according to Principal John Kuebler.

The ALA students collected four large laundry baskets filled with 750 pairs of socks. Adding to the excitement, the students also enjoyed a visit from LuAnn Schafer, the listener engagement manager at Star 99.1, who talked about the Sock Drop outreach and how the donations would make a great impact. The students walked away with some Star swag, but, more importantly, the feeling of doing something kind and making a difference.

“We are looking forward to other opportunities to be a blessing and possibly partnering with Star 99.1 again in the future,” said Mr. Kuebler.
