Star of Hope Ministries in Paterson, New Jersey is seeking help from generous individuals and churches to bless inner-city children with two special initiatives this summer.
The parachurch ministry is hoping to provide Bible Camp scholarships for 75 children to attend Streamside Camp in the Poconos this summer and backpacks for more than 1,750 children in August.
“Both of these efforts will give children opportunities to grow and to develop physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually,” said Matt Andersen, executive director of Star of Hope. “We are offering local Christians an opportunity to give a child an opportunity, an opportunity that otherwise might not be available for him or her.”
Several pastors and community leaders from Paterson have seen the good that can happen when their children received attended Bible Camp last year and/or received a backpack prior to attending school in the fall.
“As the Pastor of a local church in Paterson I am always looking for ways to help the young people of my congregation and community,” said Pastor Anthony Capers of Victory Temple UHC. “The Summer Camp Scholarship Program offered through Star of Hope Ministries is wonderful because it exposes our children to the magnificence of God’s creation in a safe Christian setting. Thank you, Star of Hope, for creating this opportunity.”
“We are so happy to partner with Star of Hope and give children the tools needed to have success,” said Rev. Dr. Thomas Farrar of Gilmore Tabernacle Look and Live Ministry in Paterson. “We also include a Bible in the backpacks and the Bible is also a tool to help them in their spiritual walk. We thank God for Star of Hope and the churches that are instrumental in passing out the tools for success for our children within the community.”
Star of Hope equips the church to engage and empower neighbors by providing material resources, educational, and convening opportunities. Project Backpack and Summer Camp Scholarship Program are developed and implemented in concert with churches and organizations in the Greater Paterson area.
