Pillar College participated in the 2021 Movement.org virtual leadership event on Friday, October 22. The multi-location leadership event drew in people from across the United States, Latin America and Canada and was translated into Spanish, Portuguese, and French.
This interactive event, Movement Day 2021, was broadcast from Christian Culture Center in Brooklyn, featured speakers, artistic expressions, panels, interviews, and small groups that encouraged participants to interact with thought provoking questions. There were more than 200 satellite sites all over the world including, Australia, Canada and Saudi Arabia.
Throughout the broadcast participants were encouraged to use the hashtags #MDNYC2021 #MDTogethr and use a QR code to learn more about the organizations in need of support. Movement Day started in 2014 as an outgrowth of Movement.org.
Working with the local community is one of the goals of the organization. During the panel discussion on foster care it was revealed 90% of the children in the foster care system in New York are Black or Latino. The QR codes shown throughout the telecast had links that participants could access to learn more about organizations that help vulnerable segments of the population.
Dr. A.R. Bernard, pastor of the 37,000 member Christian Cultural Center Church in Brooklyn, was the keynote speaker. He encouraged participants to use God and the Bible as their moral compass.
Pillar College Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President, Dr. Rupert A. Hayles, Jr. has served on the Movement.Org board in the past and enjoyed the information shared.
“Pillar College was among the 200 cities around the globe at this event honoring Jesus and learning how to solve societal challenges,” Dr. Hayles said. “It was a privilege for each person to be at this event.”
