Market Street Mission Seeks Clothing Donations, Volunteers For Annual Coat Giveaway

During the winter months, a heavy coat and a pair of warm winter gloves are necessities – but for some families in our community, good winter coats are unaffordable. On Saturday, November 2, the Market Street Mission will be hosting its annual Coat Giveaway to provide free winter gear to hundreds of guests so we can keep our community warm.

Anyone in need of a coat is invited to join Market Street Mission (MSM) on November 2, between 10 am – 1 pm on the Morristown Green. They will have men’s, women’s, and children’s coat sizes available, as well as hats, gloves, and scarves. (In the case of inclement weather, the event will be held at the Mission at 9 Market Street in Morristown).

“The annual MSM Coat Giveaway is a time for community members, churches, corporations, and individuals to get together and collect winter coats and accessories for the community. Volunteers are eager to assist guests in finding just the right fit and color coat they are looking for. We have over 80 wonderful volunteers that come just to make sure each guest we serve feels cared for,” says Debbie McKenna, Market Street Mission’s Events and Volunteer Manager.

Looking to donate? Through the end of October, MSM is collecting new and gently used winter coats and accessories. These items can be dropped off at our Thrift Store at 25 George Street in Morristown. Donation hours are Monday-Saturday (except Wednesday and Sunday) from 9am-3:30pm. MSM also has an Amazon wish list with new coats to ship directly to the Mission. We are grateful for the support of all those who help us collect these items!

MSM also depends on the help of an incredible team of volunteers to keep the event running smoothly. Volunteers help set up the coats and accessories, and also assist our community guests in finding the coats they need. Bilingual (English and Spanish) volunteers are especially needed! MSM will also host a Coat Giveaway at our Market Street Mission – Jersey Shore (formerly the Jersey Shore Rescue Mission) location in Asbury Park on Saturday, November 16.
